Matthew’s research centers on program evaluation feedback with an emphasis on measures of teacher performance and compensation reform. He specializes in data management and governance and has collaborated in the design and evaluation of state and district accountability systems. He currently serves as the lead evaluator for a multi-year Teacher Incentive Fund grant in San Antonio, Texas, and also provides design and administration support for the statewide Tennessee Educator Survey.

Outside of work, Matthew takes advantage of Minnesota winters through skating, sledding, and skiing with his wife and daughter (they will need a toboggan soon as they just welcomed a son to the family).  When forced indoors, he stays active on the racquetball court and honing his juggling skills.

Prior to joining Basis, Matthew served as the Director of Research at the Tennessee Department of Education, as a researcher for Metro-Nashville Public Schools, and as an independent consultant to clients in Tennessee, North Carolina, Michigan, and Arizona.
