Senior Researcher

Basis Policy Research (Basis) seeks a full-time Senior Researcher. Senior Researchers are responsible for leading rigorous studies in the areas of early childhood, K-12 education, housing, continuing education, workforce development, corporate training and/or public health. Qualified candidates will have experience in all phases of the applied research process, from crafting the study concept to securing funding to analyzing data to producing final deliverables. Senior Researchers lead multiple research projects and teams. Strong, demonstrated skills in quantitative methods and experience in statistical programming are preferred.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leading externally funded, applied research or evaluation projects
  • Managing research teams
  • Writing research grants and proposals
  • Securing data from external partners (executing data sharing agreements)
  • Using primary and secondary data sources and qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Expertise in social policy program areas (e.g., education, housing, workforce development, etc.)
  • Working directly with funding organizations such as federal and state government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and non-profits
  • Collaborating on organizational activities to support the Basis culture

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in a social science field, preferably economics, education, public policy, political science, psychology, or statistics
  • Minimum of five years of post-doctoral professional work experience
  • Experience drafting proposals and securing new grants and contracts, including budget development
  • Has served as a Principal Investigator or Co-PI on large scale, multi-year research studies

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced statistical programming skills (Stata or R preferred)
  • Track record of peer reviewed publications
  • Experience managing a team of researchers
  • Designing and conducting quasi-experimental and experimental studies
  • Analyzing longitudinal administrative data
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple timelines
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while also working collaboratively within teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively create executive presentations to synthesize findings for appropriate audiences (e.g., policymakers, practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders)
  • Experience and comfort working remotely/independently for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time
  • Actively contribute to a workplace that values and promotes a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Entrepreneurial orientation with experience and interest in business development activities

Compensation

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and location in the range of $125,000 – $250,000.
  • Benefits include employer matching 401k, remote/hybrid work structure, annual performance bonus, moving stipend (if necessary), generous PTO, personal accounting services, and funding for professional learning/conferences.
