Senior Researcher

Basis Policy Research (Basis) seeks a Senior Researcher to start immediately.  The Senior Researcher will be responsible for designing and conducting rigorous studies of PreK-12 education policies and programs.  Qualified candidates will be capable of and experienced in leading projects through all phases of the applied research process, from crafting the study concept to securing funding to producing final deliverables.  The Senior Researcher will serve multiple clients, manage dedicated project teams, and develop a diverse portfolio of work.  We are particularly interested in applicants with interest in research on school choice, educator effectiveness, and education finance. Strong, demonstrated skills in quantitative methods and measurement are required.


  • Strong background in quantitative methods
  • Skilled writer and proofreader
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Experience as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of PreK-12 education policy and reform issues
  • Experience working directly with school districts, state departments and other educational organizations
  • Experience leading applied research projects


  • Ph.D. in a social science field, preferably economics, education, public policy, political science, psychology, or statistics
  • Advanced statistical programming skills (Stata or R)
